The Call

The phone rings, a call I don’t expect.
The greeting is returned.
The voice once so sweet
now causes my hands to tremble.
Memories flood my thoughts
Times and places shared.
Emotions thought suppressed
come rushing to the front.
Small words begin the dialogue
but grow as time passes.
Questions asked without answers.
I wished I had them for you.
Apologies.
Regrets.
Sorrow.
Confusion.
Another chance?
One more time?
Faith renewed?
Begin again?
Trust, once broken, hard
to restore.
Love, once vanquished, reluctant
to return.
The bond once strong between us  two,
you rendered it into.
Can it be repaired? I can not say.
Is it even there?
Your heart is still ajumble.
Another stands between.
You must learn your heart and mind
before you ask for mine.
I can’t return to where we were
Can’t struggle there again.
Certainty of one thing grows.
You must know yourself before meeting me.
But when you learn just who you are and what
you want from life
Than call again with words so sweet
and we’ll see if this is right.

""When the heart sings and the spirit soars,
the music of life is complete."
bkh - October 99
"Love is the music the heart sings best."
"To bring you laughter each morning and warmth at night...
would bring me joy at all hours." :c)
